Here are some scenes from the Operation Lifesaver Enforcement Train trip from Salisbury to Asheville and back. The event was hosted by Norfolk Southern Railway.

A huge Operation Lifesaver banner warning about trespassing on the railroad was hung trackside at the Salisbury train station.

Here's a view from the cab of the engine as the train prepares to depart Salisbury. The vehicles crossing the tracks were not in violation of the law as the lights and gates were yet to be activated.

Here's Vivian! That's Vivian Speight-Bridges, the North Carolina coordinator for Operation Lifesaver who put the trip together. The TV monitor was set up to give riders the engineer's view of the railroad ahead.
Here's a view from the back of the train as the two-car Operation Lifesaver special heads down the mountain from Ridgecrest to Old Fort.

A camera mounted on the hood of the engine gave passengers in cars behind an engineer's view of the railroad. This scene shows the train heading west toward Statesville. That's US Highway 70 on the left.

Passengers disembark at Morganton, near the old Southern Railway depot the state wants refurbished for restoration of Salisbury-Asheville passenger service.
