The trip produced a good turnout of officers from cities and towns along the route as well as others from elsewhere in the Central Piedmont region of the state.

During the layover in Charlotte, camera bugs took advantage of this "photo op": the Operation Lifesaver Special (left), in place for the return trip to Greensboro, and the Piedmont (right), awaiting its late-afternoon departure for Raleigh.
