| The 'S' line today: a brighter future perhaps? Once the route of sleek streamliners and hot-shot freights, the former Seaboard Air Line Railway's main line through North Carolina ain't what it used to be. And yet, it may come back to life in years to come as the route of high-speed rail-passenger service from Richmond to Raleigh. Meanwhile, the "S" line bides its time as a low-density freight railway still alive, but barely. The scenes here were photographed on a beautiful springtime afternoon on Monday, April 30, 2001. |
